Oradour-sur-Glane is a village in southwestern France that preserves the ruins of a settlement systematically destroyed and its population massacred during World War II. On June 10, 1944, soldiers from the Waffen-SS Division Das Reich separated the inhabitants by gender, confined men to barns for execution, locked women and children in the church and set it ablaze, and burned the village before withdrawing.
